International Makeup Artist Trade Show

The International Makeup Artist Trade Show (IMATS) comes to LA every June with lots of new products and amazing makeup artistry from beauty to speical effects. There are legendary makeup artist roaming the event that only a true makeup artist would even recognize. I've been going for the past 8 years and every year it seems to get bigger and bigger.

Conor McCullagh, a artist from the Syfy Channel makeup competition show FaceOff

This year I ventured out to the show with two of my very good friends and makeup artist Anthony and Tony. We walked around the event for about 3 hours checking out new things that we may want to invest in. Anthony and I have used this event as a way to meet up during the year to catch up and enjoy a afternoon of hanging out. We both love the industry so what a better way to spend the day together. Tony hadn't been in many years so he was excited to check out some new things. So here's a few pictures of the show..enjoy them!!

This makeup was AMAZING!! So glad I got a picture of if...triple kudos to the makeup artist!

I wish I wouldn've seen this finished!

So just like my race tradition of getting a slurpee after a race I also have a tradition with Anthony to get lunch at Wolfe Burger in Pasadena after the trade show..meals like this is why I have to run my tushy off!!!

Starting in September I'll be posting some photos of my own work from Knott's Berry Farms Halloween Haunt. I've been working there for 15 years and look forward to making scary monsters for a month and a half!!

ARE YOU MISSING MY GIVE AWAYS!! I have a fun fashion give away from Flourish Salon...some great feather earrings!! Make sure you check back this week to see how to enter!! No animals were harmed in the making of these fun earrings!!

Thanks for reading!

So What's My Plan?!

I haven't had a busy weekend in a long time so the hussle and bussle of the weekend was long overdue. It was filled with surprise parties and makeup madness. So much happen this weekend that I feel like I forgot something or someone! I'm sure I'll be getting an email or text saying "Did you forget something." EECK!!
I didn't do ANY running or workouts this weekend.....I know shame on me! However after all the activities I did over the weekend I should log it as a giant workout. It was non stop from one place to another Disneyland for a few hours, 2 suprise parties, and walking for 4 hours around the Pasadena Convention Center for the International Makeup Trade Show. I'm still exhausted and can't seem to get enough sleep just yet to feel better. My motivation to do anything is pretty much sitting on the couch eating popcorn, its pretty pathetic. However I did do some serious thinking today and its time to do SOMETHING! I was thought about doing the 40 day challenge that Danica is doing wonderful at for about 2.5 seconds, but I know myself and it won't happen. I need to set other goals that are realistic for me, so here is what I thought up.

Mondays - I'm always exhausted from the weekend and starting the work week, so I'm going to use this as my "rest day"
Tuesdays - Run
Wednesday- Trail Run
Thursdays - Hot Yoga
Fridays - Run
Saturday - Beach Run or Hot Yoga
Sunday - Hiking, bike ride or whatever the beautiful summer weather allows, but no sitting around watching Jerseylicious!

I think that plan will work for me and I know I can do it I just need to get it going! I do blame my partial laziness on having the flu the past few weeks, but I'm better now so no more excuses!! So thats my plan! Wish me luck!!

Fathers Day

Today is Fathers Day so I'd like to share some things about my dad in honor of this day. My dad Louis, AKA Louie was born in the Azores on the island of Flores. It sits there with 8 other island about 930 miles off the coast of Lisbon, Portugal. He moved to the Stougthon, Mass. when he was 16 years old with my grandparents Anna and Abilio, twin sister Mary, and older brother Joe. In 1974 he met my mom, they got married 2 years later, then in 1977 they decided to move the family to California.

Beautiful Island of Flores, Azores

My dad got a job here pretty quickly working a graveyard shift at a Dairy company. I remember as a little girl before I started school, my dad would watch me during the day while my mom went to work part time at a hair salon. He would try his best to stay awake until my mom got home, but it didn't always work out that way. There were a few times he dosed off on the couch leaving me with my toys and the TV set to the Smurfs.

Every morning my dad would take me to Hanks Coffee shop for breakfast, which so happen to be right next door to the salon my mom worked at. We always stopped at my moms work so she could comb my long hair before he took me out in public He did try the hair thing a few times but If you ever see pictures of me from ages 3-5, I had some pretty epic outfits and hairstyles. My mom would always tell him "That outift doesn't match", but he tried and he did conquer the two ponytail bit so I had those quite often.

My dad was also the dad that went to all my feild trips with me. I remember one time we went to Marine Land and all us kids got drenched at the dolphin pool, he bought us all new t-shirts so we wouldn't get sick. I think he was more worried that the other parents would be upset after seeing his group soppy and cold. HAHA! There was always a fight with the kids on who was going to be part of our group during trips. I was always proud to have my daddy there!

Growing up my dad was always supportive from my drill dance team competitions, to my amatuer talent show contests in the living room. I can honeslty say if it wasn't for my dad I wouldn't be the person I am today, or even the runner that I am. Yes he's made me cry a few times during races for pushing me but now that I think about it, he did it because he wanted to show me what I can do. Besides morning breakfasts at Hanks Coffe Shop, the feild trips, the shopping sprees my mom never knew about, the best time I had with my dad was running my first marathon with him. I was so glad to have my dad there with me by my side. We ran, laughed and just enjoy that wet raining day together.

My dad has been through so much the past couple of years. He cared for my mom while she was going through her chemo treatments, he cooked, cleaned and always made sure she was ok. He kept our family together and stayed strong for her. My dad is amazing and I know the day I have children of my own my dad is going to be a very "Cool Grandpa"!!
HAPPY FATHERS DAY to my Papa Louie. I love you very much and I can't thank you enough for everything you have done for our family. To all the dads out there, I hope you have a wonderful day with your families!!!

Can you help my mom?

The Relay for Life event is a 24 hour relay fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. What allot of people don't know is back in November 2009 my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. She did several months of chemotherapy and is now on Zometa treatments to keep her bones nice and healthy. Her cancer is not cureable, but it is treatable. If you meet my mom you wouldn't even know she has cancer in her body. She's back at work, going to her church meetings, just enjoying life with her family and friends. My mom is the strongest most amazing lady I have ever meet. I know we will all say that about our moms, but I do believe my mom is the greatest EVER! My brother is also a cancer survivor and we couldn't have been more happy when we found out he was completely cancer free! So this relay is very close to our hearts.
Last year we did this event together. My dad and I ran for 2 hours around a high school track and raised a little over $500.00. It was a special day for us because it was the last week ending my moms treatments. She couldn't do allot of walking last year, but this year she's ready. Unfortunately my schedule doesn't allow me to be there with her but I know she understand.

I usually pick one charity a year to run for, but this year I'm asking you donate to my mom for her walk. Even if its $2.00, every little bit counts. We have all have someone we know that is fighting or has conquered cancer. Please help and donate to my moms page. She'll be walking on June 25th!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Laguna Hills Half Marathon

Last weekend I joined Danica at the Laguna Hills Half Marathon. I had given myself some high hopes for this race and really wanted to PR. I thought having Danica there to push me would help since she’s much faster then I am. My legs on the other hand had other plans.
We met in the parking lot around 6am so we could grab our bibs, and use the "restrooms". The race was small with about 2500 runners. We got the start line and waited in the back of the pack. Danica made a suggestion that if you start in a pace group lower then yours then you don't get as tired at the beginning trying to keep you with your normal pace group, made total sense to me so I was all for the back of the pack start!

Me, Danica, Emil and friends!

The first 3 miles were horrible, once again I started to feel the same pain I felt in my legs the weekend before in Fresno Half Marathon. They were tight from my exterior ankle up to my calves. I knew they were warming up and after a while the pain would go away, but its the most annoying thing ever! The hills weren’t to bad just yet as the course took us through a residential area. We both weren't really feeling this race in the morning and had discussed for about 1.5 seconds to just do the 5k but we kept going, chatting and enjoying ourselves.

The Start

We ran through a few main streets then at about mile 7 we were put on the Aliso and Wood Canyon Park trail. There were no spectators in this section so it sort of made it a boring run. The volunteers were doing the best they could cheering us on, but it with no spectators the last half of the race seemed like it took forever.

Just running along chatting!

It started to get warm so we were making sure to stop at every water station to get in some hydration. With the heat and lack of spectators we had to start to entertain ourselves. I serenaded Danica a few times with Lady Gaga songs, which I know she loved! HAHA!! We also attempted to get some fun jumping photos around mile 9. I have to say I think I did pretty well!

WHEEEEEE!!!!

Cheertastic

Up, Up and Away!

Danica really wanted me PR so she suggested we really push starting at mile 10. I took a look at my watch and thought it was somewhat doable even if it was a minute PR. I was willing to try and was going to talk myself into it as much as I could. My legs really started to get heavy with the up and down hills and the time was ticking away. I was really hoping the end would have a giant downhill so I could have a little help to the finish. That was wishful thinking because instead of a downhill we were graced with a up hill to the finish. Danica just kept saying “your almost there” I was telling myself the same thing, but that darn up hill was a surprise and my stumpy legs were not having it at all!

Coming into the finish!

I was starting to see more spectators coming up to the finish and I could hear them announcing people coming in I knew I was close. I just wanted to get there out of the heat and to the finish! Danica ran up ahead of me to hit the finish first, then I finally crossed at 2:35!! WAHHH WAHHH WAHHHH no PR for me =( We walked around the finishers area searching for food because that was topic of conversation during the race several times HAHA!, we were a little disappointed when we didn't find anything but oranges, and water. That's when Danica said the most amazing thing I have every heard. "We should go eat at In-N-Out, there's one where our cars are parked"...see photo below...delicious!!

Our Finishers Meal!!

I didn’t PR which I’m a little bummed about, but what I did accomplish was running 3 half marathons in a row that a year ago I don't think I could've done. I also officially became a Half Fanatic this week for the 3 races...#1118 YAY!! So out of my 3 races I ran the one race I thought was going to be my worst was actually my best Pasadena Half Marathon. I accomplished becoming a Fanatic, and I’m super proud of myself for it. I won’t be training for anything again till about July, so I think its time to get in some swimming and actually jump on the bike I got. Anyone up to teaching this girl gears? =)

Laguna Hills Half..Complete!

I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Danica for running this with me. She usually runs a sub 2 and she stayed with me the whole way. She was a great cheerleader and pacer, I had a great time running with her! Thank you to Emil for the race photos..I didn't take any pictures, what is wrong with me!! HAHA!

Hope everyone had a great race weekend this week! Thanks for reading friends!!

Memorial Day Weekend Gleekin Out!

Who doesn't love a 3 day weekend! I had allot planned and was pump to get it started, but before it could begin I had to get through a couple of days at work. On Thursday at we had to make a hat that represtented "You" for a team building meeting. I'm pretty crafty so knew that I could totaly pull something fun off. To my surprise my hat came out better then I thought and I WON prized of unspeakable value! HAHA!

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!!

Saturday Penny and I had tickets to the Glee Live Tour at the Staples Center. I'm a totally Gleek and since Penny works on the show she was able to get us backstage for some photos! I think I was more excited at the fact that I was backstrge at the Staples Center where the LA Kings play! HAHA But the show was great and we definitely had a great time! I even had my frist celebrity entourage experience..scary and fun all at the same time. Penny works with some amazing people!

Mark Salling, Puck on Glee and myself

Darren Criss, Blaine on Glee!

Monday I ran the Laguna Hills Half Marthon with Danica..still working on the race recap, coming soon!

It was also Mark's birthday (Robert's nephew). I wasn't sure if I was going to make it to Disneyland that day because of my morning race. I was really tired and knew if I went home to shower I was going to look at the bed and not think twice about laying it. I didn't want to miss his birthday, so I headed over in the clothes I was in after the race....a LA Marathon tech shirt, and Nike runnign shorts! HAHA! I'm not going to lie I was a walking zombie! The weather was beautiful and the cold water from the rides actually made my numb feet feel better! You wouldn't have caught me on a water ride in my "girlie" clothes, so going in my running stuff was a great idea!! We had a blast and from what I was told Mark had a great birthday!!

Us crazy kids on Splash Mountain!

So that was my weekend of fun in the sun. I think I'm still exhausted but it was all worth it!!

Don't forget to enter the great give away from Allied Medal Displays going on right now, make sure to enter before Friday by clicking here!!

Happy National Running Day!!
